We have been haunted by the images of unexplained gun violence, evidence of mental deterioration of football players, and news about significant suicides in the military. We cannot help but ask what is going on in the heads of those involved. We are now starting to understand that behavioral issues may be linked to brain injuries. Many doctors and researchers are determined to work through the brain puzzle to improve our mental wellbeing.
Surprisingly, the solution may be something that nature has made available to us all along. Oxygen has the power to heal. Doctors have been using oxygen to treat chronic wounds for a long time. They now believe that oxygen can help treat brain injuries as well. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a treatment in which patients breathe in oxygen under pressure. The pressure helps oxygen to saturate and penetrate the tissues to achieve pharmaceutical effects. This higher level of oxygen may trigger neurons to communicate more effectively. A trial is going to start here in Washington to study the effect of using such a treatment for patients with brain injuries. The result may open the door of using more natural and cost effective ways to treat brain injuries.Listen to the groundbreaking work in bringing hyperbarics oxygen therapy to treating brain injuries.
